Nex, maker of the award-winning basketball training app HomeCourt, is branching out into a new world of motion-based entertainment. We’re a group of deeply experienced former Apple, Google, and Facebook innovators that build rich, engaging and gamified experiences using ground-breaking AI and computer vision technology.

We’re looking for passionate game artists who consistently create great artwork that immerses players into new and unique worlds. You'll be working on a variety of projects of our own with the potential for working with partners as well. We have a 'get stuff done' attitude, but we don't forget to have fun and learn from each other along the way.

Clan

As Game Artist, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future of interactive physical gaming, and learn directly from seasoned designers and product leaders. From brainstorming through implementation, the Game Artist will collaborate directly with the company leadership, as well as our engineering, marketing, and operations partners. You’ll be expected to quickly develop visuals and concepts, often in various styles, while having the ability to refine and polish them into industry-leading high-fidelity art. You will need to be effective in a fast-paced, high-growth, startup environment. You’ll help establish the future aesthetics of the company’s games and set the benchmark for the quality we’re looking to maintain.

Powers
  • Can carry an idea quickly from concept to finished illustration
  • Can translate art concepts and assets into game environments
  • Can execute a variety of styles, and demonstrates comfort in 2D or 3D concept and production art
  • Can work within an art pipeline, including the conceptualization of how artwork can be brought to life through animation, effects, and implementation
  • Can prepare artwork as components and comfortably integrate it into Unity’s workflow
  • Works with Game Designers & Technical Artists to create game concepts that are feasible
  • Understands the limitations that come with mobile hardware and web-based games
Skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt easily to change
  • Collaborates well with cross-functional teams and peers
  • Is self-motivated and eager to strive for excellence
  • Ability to interact & communicate effectively
Bonus Points
  • Ability to design levels
  • Experience working on games that involve AR or VR
  • Experience creating animations or VFX
  • Familiarity with lightweight, casual game development
  • Ability to prototype game concepts or do lightweight development in Unity
  • Proficiency in design tools from Adobe, Sketch or Figma
XP
  • A bachelor's degree in Game Art & Design, Illustration, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in game development
  • Significant contributions to at least one shipped game as an Art Lead
